Often at the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford we receive telephone calls about our wonderful members, nice comments about Milford, and calls thanking us for our efforts. It’s not often though, that we receive a call about a business wanting to make a charitable cash donation to the chamber.
A few weeks ago that’s exactly what happened.
Milford Walmart Community Involvement Associate Lynn Moss called saying their Store Manager; Stephanie Edwards had a $1,000.00 charitable donation check ready to be picked up.
I quickly called CCGM President Fred Rohm, letting him know about the donation, and in a few short days we had the big (fake) and little (real) check in our hands.
Stephanie has been a Walmart manager for many years in Georgetown, however she’s new to the Milford store. In the short time that she’s been managing the Milford store, because of her dedication several charitable donations have been made to non-profit organizations in the greater Milford area. Ms. Edwards told us it is very important to her that Walmart is recognized as a business that supports the community.
Since Stephanie has been managing the Milford Walmart, not only did the chamber receive a charitable donation, Walmart also supported the Riverwalk “Freedom” Festival and the Holiday Auction & Tastes of Milford.
All of us at the CCGM are very thankful for the donation, and the continued support from the Milford Walmart. The donation will help support special chamber programs including the Be Loyal- Buy Local Campaign, the New Member Orientations, the future Awards Dinner and daily operations.
Many people are not aware that the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford is a “Member Driven Organization”. The chamber does not receive grants; state or federal funding, but relies solely on membership investments, sponsorships and funds raised at chamber events. So, to get a call out of the blue saying that there’s a donation check waiting for us is something unusual.
Fortunately the CCGM continues to increase membership each year, has wonderful supportive members, and the donation from Walmart is another example of the fact that we truly are a “Member Driven Organization”.
So often people tell me that they love Milford, and that I am lucky to work in such a great community where people are willing to support each other. I always agree with them. Milford is a great place to be, and because of caring people like Stephanie Edwards, it just keeps getting better.

And, for the record…I was one of the many people feeling lost when Walmart was closed during the recent snowstorms. How about you?
