Bang for a Buck Campaign Designed to Raise Money for Fireworks

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford and the Milford Parks and Recreation Department are very excited to announce the Riverwalk “Freedom” Festival is celebrating it’s

10th Anniversary this September. RWFF Chairpersons, Ruth Abbate and Gary Emory say they can’t believe this is the tenth year, and that the big day falls on 9-11.  Ruth says it seems like just yesterday the country was shocked by the devastation of the events that occurred on September 11th, but that she’s glad the festival took place that year and every year since.  She says she expects this year’s event to be the biggest and best yet.

Gary says he’s just about ready for the festival, with all the entertainment lined up already, and that all he’s waiting for is the fireworks commitment.

A large part of the annual festival is the Saturday night fireworks.  After a wonderful day of food, shopping, entertainment and spending time on Milford’s Riverwalk, the fireworks display ends the day on a happy, patriotic note with some of the best fireworks in the state.

Year after year families join together in Bicentennial Park to relax and watch the fireworks while they listen to patriotic music.  The Riverwalk “Freedom” Festival fireworks are the only fireworks display in Milford, and year after year families ask if there will be fireworks after the festival.
Of course in order to be able to offer the fireworks, both the CCGM and Parks & Rec. are responsible for raising the funds needed for the display.  This year we’re asking the community to help.  Chamber members Vickie Cox and Cheryl Stover, at the Heritage at Milford, volunteered to chair a Fireworks Committee and designed a campaign called “Bang for a Buck”.  They say if everyone who works or lives in Milford donates just a buck, there will be enough money raised to do a wonderful 10th Anniversary Fireworks display.

They started the campaign at the Bug and Bud Festival in April and have continued raising funds by selling 50/50’s at chamber events and other creative ways.

Many area businesses, including The Duck In Car Wash, Happy Harry’s, Dover Pools, Capriotti’s and Medings Seafood have collection jars ready for your donation.  The Park Place Restaurant and Lounge and the Chamber of Commerce have Bang for your Buck Stars available to purchase.  Or, you can contact Cheryl or Vickie at the Heritage if you would like to make a donation of any size at 422.8700.

The Heritage at Milford, Downtown Milford, Inc. and L & W Insurance are current fireworks sponsors, helping Vickie and Cheryl get closer to their goal.

If you and your family enjoy watching the fireworks each year, please make a donation to the campaign.  The Riverwalk “Freedom” Festival is a community event, and we need the community to step-up and help make the fireworks happen.
